Knife Edge:
A knife edge pillow is two pieces of fabric that have been sewn together around the edges, forming a “knife edge” or a sharp, simple seam.

Box Pillow:
A “box” pillow is made with flat sides. Unlike the knife edge pillow that is flat at the seams, a box pillow has taller edges and is constructed like a box.

Shirred Box Pillow:
The sides of the “box” can be made of flat fabric or shirred (gathered) fabric, and it can match the top of the pillow or contrast it.

Framed Pillow:
This is when the needlepoint canvas is inserted within a “frame” with mitered edges. This can be done in a boxed or knife pillow.

Cording:
Cording is an easy way to add a little extra to a decorative pillow. The cording can be made in a contrast fabric which complements the pillow fabric. Or, a pillow can be self-corded, which means that the cording is made from the same fabric as the pillow. See above photo.
Ruffles, Tassels:
Instead of cording, a ruffle can be added to the edge of a knife pillow. Or Tassels can be added to pillow edges
